A little extra, that’s all

Who are nurses? What do they do? What are they supposed to do? I will try and answer the aforementioned questions in my own limited capacity. Nurses they say are the God’s right hand, an angel and so many other things soothing to the ears of a burned out nurse. So many good cliches attached to this profession but here I am today to defy some of this sugar coated descriptions. Well, a nurse is not just someone in white dress that you see in a hospital setting, the ones who tell you, that injection won’t hurt a bit but it actually does as hell, this part comes with the job, it’s a freaking needle going inside your body, it’s got to hurt but where am I going with this one? I was saying they ain’t the only nurses, if you are lucky enough, you might be a nurse the moment you were born, having a caring heart, tending to your little brother or sister’s bruised knees, tending to your parents when they are sick or helping your friends when they need your help, this are the qualities that makes you a nurse. So you see, all of us are nurses in a way. It is expected out of a normal human being to have emotions and right in there makes you a nurse. The nurses who ain’t paid of course and it is true as it gets to say the best nurses in the world are unpaid “our mothers”.

“A kind nurse takes half the pain away”. Now this one ain’t a cliche, the only person you want to see when you are sick is your mother and in her absence you meet us, your shrewd siblings you might say to do justice to the unmatched love and care of a mother. We the nurses try to step in to make you comfortable, to be there if you want to talk or ask something, to drag you to the toilet to have a bath, to make you move your lazy ass from bed, to make sure you eat well, drink well, pass stool, urinate and reassure you that your kidneys will be intact after surgery and this ain’t a ‘India fights back episode’ where your kidneys might be gone. 😁 I hope it’s safe to say we are your second mother’s, the shrewd one but with that equal amount of wish to see you get better soon.

A nurse ain’t all about medication and cocky medical terms. He/she is your saviour in the field, when you are lost for words and everyone is onto pricking you or cutting you. They are the one to let you know what actually is the plan for you in a manner that makes you comfortable, if that doesn’t help they can discuss things of your liking too , the handsome korean drama actors, the current tomato price in sabji bazaar, you name it. To be a nurse is to be versatile, to be jack of all trades and we all are nurse deep down. The ones who chose it as a profession like myself, I say we just went an extra mile or two, that’s all. So here is wishing all the nurses all over the globe a very happy nurse day. 😊😊😊

The city of mercedes and rikshaw.

Bangalore and now known as Bengaluru. It’s the city that never sleeps, as I lay here without a sim card to this part of the world, where the mobile sim dealer looks at my face like I’m going to diffuse something and tells me I don’t get one. Anyways I was saying, the hustle and bustle of this city, people are in such hurry and the number of vehicless, bikes and scooters is humangous and the honks from each twice as much. Sitting down by the highway in front of a restaurant where me and Dr. Chencho had dinner earlier, I couldn’t help but get panicked looking at the rush, the honks, the energy, everybody was to get somewhere. On the contrary the drivers had their calm intact and honks rapid, even the scooty drivers with their whole family on it,how a scooter was supposed to carry only two people? Not in Bangalore my dear friends, not in Bangalore. It must be a common sight to see a whole family fit into a scooter here. (father, mother, daughter in the middle and son in the front) talk of optimum use of space. Super man, iron man, spider man dropped it’s value in my life when I saw this father veering his scooter left and right, to and fro, avoiding being sandwiched by big buses,it was just another night for him, and the super heroes who drove alone on a scooter and bikes, well, they are God, seriously, they have no fear, they can get past anything on the road by hook or crook, even the pedestrian pathway becomes their road. As I kept watching this events as it passed by,trust me, I was on the edge of my seat prepared for anything.

A little upward walk from the hotel where we are putting up is NIMHANS, the much reputed mental institute and it holds it’s name well with it’s building for various mental and neuro sciences stretched for acres and acres. A breathing space from near the highway, people from near that crowded and noisy hotel must come here to get a  grip over their mind Dr and I was discussing. The little amount of tree that they have seemed like they understood the need of people here because their branches spread huge from one side of the road to the other giving a good shade. It is a little peaceful inside, a weird thing to say about a mental institute but that’s how it is here, I for one preferred to be inside. Dr. Chencho led the way, our first day and it was sunday, we knew that we won’t be meeting any officials today so it was just to familiarize ourselves with the institute so that we know where to go at least for the coming two weeks when we will be attached for training at the institute. We started from the south of NIMHANS compound. The first building I can be sure of,right after entering the gate is the convention centre, looks like an old structure with a modern touch and it is big,Dr.Cencho said that’s the place where conference were held,be it national or international in the institute. We reached the administrative block after that which was closed because it was sunday, kept going and then started the various buildings, can’t remember them all and in the right sequence but recollecting some few, this were the names on the board outside each of them- nimhans museum, r pet building, a building in memory of a Dr, Lakshmi mittal building, SBI bank, nurses college, some charity guest house named infosys,(not to mention we tried to get a room there but the authority needed one of us to be admitted in Nimhans, that was the rule.) Anyways moving on, then there was family therapy, child psychiatry, adolscent psychiatry, can’t tell you the exact directions but it’s all inside the compound, and some three buildings for de-addiction on the right middle part. Sister Pema and I’m glad we have Dr. Chencho with us, we kept up with him and that was enough to move around this part like we knew exactly where we were going.  That would sum up the first 2 days in Bengaluru as of now.

My dear friend

Can’t blame no one, not even God for I’m sure it was not even his will to let you go this soon, let’s just say it’s life in the end and even though I want to make the hardest of rebutal and bring you back, it will be of no avail.

You are and will be missed “bro”. The way you made it sound was always amazing, our ‘bro’ thing. Now I have seen and experienced some of my friends, close and ‘bro’ to me leave so soon, lessons are learned, too harsh a lesson but taken. RIP bro. With the kind heart that you have, may you be reborn in the higher realm away from this samsara.

The ‘jamela’ of 2 week training

So been working in psychiatric ward for almost two years now and now after a long time selected by my in charge to go for an out country training, thought it would be easy and a good exposure but the procedure before hand man!! You have to do some running to and fro. I want to list the ‘do’s’ in detail just so I know what to do in the future and perhaps even let my friends know.  To get the following documents when you get a short training once in a blue moon. It’s a rare opprtunity, must grab it when it comes.

1-in service training form (rcsc)

2-medical fitness certificate.

3- audit clearance fot training.

4-no objection certificate

5-CID photocopy at the earliest.

That’s it and yeah CID photocopy at the earliest because they need to do your plane ticket bokking in advance, then there is to follow up for release order from the HR section, the earlier the better to because after that we have to go with it into the finance section to get cash and I guess that’s about it. I felt a little lost, the first timer to such training that I am, so for me and my friends in future to know exactly what to do. I wanted to jot it down. I’m sure this will help me remember.

A reason

Walking past life like I don’t
Give a damn but you should know.

You are the first face I see in the

Morning and the last  when my day is done.

Of hopes devastated and life derranged,

Of lessons learned and love sought from the wrong one’s.

when life seemed blank, that’s when you entered with your flashing colours of life.

You brought me back to life again.

Of all the reason I have been holding onto, you gave me but just a reason.

A reason to live by and a reason to see us through.
